The Centre for Digital Entrepreneurship and Economic Performance (the DEEP Centre) is pleased to release its newest report on the potentially transformative effect of crowdfunding . The study “Crowdfunding: Catalyzing Growth, Investment and Access to Capital,” by DEEP Centre co-founder Dan Herman, notes that crowdfunding, and in particular equity crowdfunding, offers a potentially-billion dollar investment pool for Canadian small and medium sized enterprises. This portends significant benefits for the Canadian economy, notably in the mitigation of the so-called “valley of death” that sees a significant number of innovative firms die from lack of investment capital. As Herman notes, “this new source of capital could unleash significant long-term employment and economic gains.”
